What You Need to Know Before Starting

Before you start building your PC, it's crucial to understand the components you'll need and how each one contributes to your system's overall performance.

Ensure you have a good workspace and the necessary tools:

  • Screwdriver
  • Anti-static wrist strap (recommended)
  • Thermal paste (if not pre-applied on the cooler)
  • A clean and well-lit area to work
  • An anti-static wrist strap to prevent damage to sensitive components

Selecting Your Components

Choosing the right components can be challenging but never impossible. Here we guide you on how to select each essential piece, from the power supply to the PC cooling and its installation.

The Skeleton of Your System: The PC Case (Chassis)

Although many believe it's a matter of taste or design, the reality is quite different. Airflow, cooling, and adequate space are key to having an efficient and high-performing PC.

Additionally, the case must be compatible with the size of the motherboard, whether ATX, microATX, or miniITX, ensuring that all ports and slots are accessible and functional.

To start the installation, remove the side panels from the case. Ensure all necessary screws and pieces are available and place the case in an accessible location.

Powering Your System: Installing the Power Supply

The power supply is one of the most important components of the PC, as it is responsible for providing power to all components. Therefore, the quality of the manufacturing is crucial.

To install the Power Supply (PSU), place the PSU in the corresponding compartment (usually at the bottom or top rear) and screw it in properly.

The Heart of Your PC: The Motherboard, Processor (CPU), and CPU Cooler

The motherboard is the heart of the computer, the central platform on which all other critical components are mounted and connected. It functions as the main distribution circuit that facilitates communication between the CPU, memory, expansion cards, storage devices, and other peripherals.

To install the motherboard, place the standoffs in the corresponding holes of the case. Insert the motherboard and align it with the standoffs. Now, screw the motherboard in place.

In gaming terms, the Processor (CPU) plays a crucial role in system performance, from game execution capability to the speed at which complex tasks can be processed.

For installation, open the CPU socket lever on the motherboard, align the CPU with the socket while observing the alignment marks, place the CPU in the socket, and lower the lever to secure it.

Heat Dissipation

Without adequate heat dissipation, the CPU could overheat, resulting in reduced performance or even physical damage to the processor.
